Mo Yan International Writing Centre

Performing Literatures and Cultures: The Humanities in a Global Context

This Project, named after the Nobel Laureate and Regent’s Honorary Fellow Mo Yan, is a significant part of our ongoing partnership with Beijing Normal University (BNU). It includes an annual creative writing prize, exchanges for writers and student, and seminars and lectures that will explore translation in the context of global literatures.

It will be run under the name of Mo Yan International Writing Centre within Oxford Prospects and Global Development Institute. Mo Yan is leading the Mo Yan International Writing Centre, and two renowned Chinese writer Yu Hua and Su Tong are invited as the first cohort Writers-in-Residence at Regents.

The Oxford-BNU Award in Creative Writing will be awarded for the first time on 26 November 2021, with announcement of the winners by UK judging panel Boyd Tonkin (FRSL), Liz Trubridge (“Downton Abbey”), and Regent’s colleagues Lynn Robson and Davis Bunn.
